Coming up April 20-22, 2012 is the annual Pet Expo! This event is a giant animal entertainment and education festival. It’s the largest pet and pet product expo in the world. Over 1,000 animals will entertain you in stage shows, competitions and demonstrations including dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, rodents, goats, pigs, llamas, rabbits, miniature horses and more. There will also be pet adoptions, pet products for sale, petting zoo, how-to workshops and advice from animal experts. It is presented by a nonprofit organization to promote responsible pet care. The Earth Day Celebration at Bolsa Chica Wetlands is a fun free way to get outside and learn about the environment with the whole family! TOMORROW April 14, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m is the annual Great Park to Present Runway Dash & e-Recycle Day! As Earth Day approaches, treat your family to a fun-filled day of fitness, educational activities and gourmet food trucks while learning the importance of recycling. The day kicks off with the Family 5K Run/Walk, a non-competitive race, where families can take a scenic tour on the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro runways and see the new Great Park agricultural areas. Visitors are encouraged to bring old televisions, computers and electronic devices to the e-recycling collection zone. Children can also learn to create recycled crafts while parents explore booths supporting personal, regional and global health and living. This Family 5K Run/Walk is being offered as a FREE event to the public, however pre-registration is required.

ExplorOcean/Newport Harbor Nautical Museum’s PIRATE’S WEEKEND adventure continues with the famous and infamous Sea Dogs throughout history. Step into the lives of pirates like, Anne Bonny who is known for her fierce, courageous temper and fiery disposition, Sir Francis Drake, a well-known hero to the English and a PIRATE to the Spaniards and the most feared and despised PIRATE of all time…Blackbeard! Four-legged PIRATES wanted! Dress your pup up in PIRATE gear and “Walk the Plank” down the board walk for the ‘Puppy Pirate Parade’. Visitors can also create their own Jolly Rogers, learn the in’s and out’s about compass and sexton reading and engage with ‘PIRATE interactors’ throughout the galleries. Inside the galleries be sure to take a glimpse of the Museum’s vast ship model collection in our Steele Model Pavilion. Experience these hands-on activities on the second day of our PIRATE Weekend adventure at 11am on the waterfront in the Balboa Fun Zone. Get in the spirit and come in costume – each child dressed in PIRATE attire receives FREE admission all weekend-long!
