Calling all animal lovers!!! Saturday, September 25 is the 9th Annual Pet Trek fundraiser from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Woodbridge Community Park in Irvine. Grab your walking shoes and your canine companion! Sponsored by Hill’s Science Diet and Jack FM, the walkathon features three different routes for varying canine and owner fitness levels, pet related vendors, a silent auction, food booths, demonstrations, contests and prizes for top pledge earners. Registration is $35 per individual and $50 per family. Pre-register before September 10 to save $10 and receive an event T-shirt and raffle ticket. All walkers will receive a goody bag. Pledge forms are available online at irvineshelter.org. NEWPORT BEACH

This weekend September 25-26th is the 22nd annual Quiksilver City of Newport Beach Surf Championships. The City of Newport Beach Surf Championships will take place at 54th or 56th Street, depending on where the waves are best. The event focuses on a commitment to local surfers, and hosts both groms and legends. Also included in the weekend’s activities are the “Quiksilver Echo Beach Challenge,” an invitational event pairing groms with top pros; and the “Expression Session” paying homage to the ’80’s era of surfing with prizes for “Best ’80’s Trick,” “Flashiest Wetsuit” and “Most Colorful Surfboard.” The weekend’s events will conclude with a private party at Blue Beet featuring projections of “Echo Beach,” a documentary on the famed surf spot by filmmakers Stefan Jeremias and Jeff Parker, followed by ’80’s cover band “Cover Me Badd and beats spun by LA DJ’s Trouble and Trifle.” For more information you can call 949-644-3151.
