Southern California has become invaded with Giant Squid! These sea creatures are about 5-feet-long, can get to be 100 pounds, with razor sharp beaks and toothed tentacles.
The Humboldt squid have been scaring scuba divers and washing up on California beaches. Native to Mexico’s deep waters, they are nicknamed “red devils” for their color and occasional tendency to attack divers. They are usually found in schools of up to 1,200! But don’t worry, they prefer deep water so swimmers and surfers need not be wary.
These Jumbo Squid are fished at night, using lights to bring the squid to the surface. With thousands amoung thousands off our coast, the question begs to be asked…Calamari anyone?
