6th time’s a charm?
5..4..3..2..1… Severe thunderstorms in Florida yesterday delayed the launch of the Endeavour Space Shuttle for the 5th time! The cost for these delays? Well for every day a shuttle mission is called off after being fueled, NASA spends about $1.3 million (according to spokeswoman Candrea Thomas)! They are almost at the record which was set in both 1986 and 1995 when it took the Columbia shuttle 7 times to finally get lift off.
Once this mission actually launches, it will be the largest gathering of people off the earth. There will be a total of 13 people from several different countries at the station, and only one woman. NASA hopes that by adding 7 more people they will be able to complete the station by the end of next year. These astronauts don’t have it too rough; there are a total of 9 rooms, 2 toilets, 2 kitchens and 2 gyms.
Endeavour’s new launch time is set for Wednesday at 6:03 p.m. EDT. Be sure not to miss it!
